Concerning Names and Titles
One thing I find troublesome about book-writing is making up names for characters and places and a title for the story.
Although, I have made up some names I'm quite proud of. For example, there's my pseudonym, Strider Wingfoot. This name was constructed from two of Aragorn's nicknames in The Lord of the Rings. I liked this name so much that I gave it its own character and tried to write a story about him which I called Strider Wingfoot: The Pirate with the Time Machine. And that's where the name of my blog came from.
Sometimes I create a name by mashing together random letters. This produces results like Catslosh, Jebjab, Vittz, etc. Other times a name appears to me in a dream. Some of those are Lizzie Greenleaf, Caroline Shatney, George Pellode, etc. Unfortunately I can't control my dreams so I don't get many of these.
I find it very difficult to make up a story title I'm satisfied with. The only one I actually like that I can think of right now is Strider Wingfoot. I like titles that are descriptive enough but not too generic. They don't have to be vague but should sound interesting. For instance, I don't think I've ever heard of a pirate with a time machine before.
Thanks for listening to my rant. If you have any tips about names or titles, feel free to post them in the comments.
